Dressage and eventing training for horses and riders ready for a committed, structured program.
Laura VanderVliet Equestrian offers dressage and eventing training for horses and riders ready for a committed, structured program.
The work is built around correct basics, clear progression, and horse-first care. Whether the goal is improving rideability, developing fitness, solving a training problem, or preparing for the next competitive level, Laura's program starts with the same question: what does this horse need to become stronger, more confident, and more correct?
Laura customizes the work for each horse. Her goal is to reveal the horse's potential and help the horse reach that level of training without rushing the process. Time, quality, and consistency are the keys.
For many horses, the most effective path is to come into training for a defined period: often one to three months, and sometimes longer depending on the horse and the goal. That time allows Laura to identify the problem, rebuild the right pieces, and create a clear path forward. Once the horse is established, the owner can transition into regular ship-in lessons to keep the work progressing.
Fitness is a central part of the program. Horses at Merry Go Round Farm do not only school in the ring. They hack, use the hills, and build the kind of strength and conditioning that helps them stay sound and competition-fit. Laura sees fitness as especially important for dressage horses, many of which are asked to perform without enough real conditioning behind the work.
The goal is always a horse that understands the job, a rider who understands the steps, and a partnership that can move forward with confidence — confident, forward-thinking horses that enjoy their work without losing their spirit.
“Laura treats each horse as an individual, recognizing its strengths and weaknesses, and tailors the training program to bring out the best in each of them. She gives them the time they need to reach their potential.”
“Laura is highly skilled and indispensable for teaching a young horse to behave well and enjoy being ridden without discouraging its spirit or enthusiasm.”
“She holds to the highest standards of honesty and integrity… We love working with Laura, and we know our horse is getting the best care and training we could hope for.”
Private lessons are available primarily as ship-in lessons at the farm. Laura's teaching grows out of her training work — practical, horse-first insight for serious, committed students who want to understand the steps behind the work.
Laura may occasionally travel or meet riders elsewhere, including at shows, depending on the situation. Event coaching may be possible with advance planning. Travel lessons are not a regularly advertised service — please inquire directly with a specific request.
